YouthBuild Philosophy
Young adults have the potential to succeed in their personal lives and impact the community in a significant way. Their unique talent and abilities are valuable assets to our world.
Program description
YouthBuild is a 10-month leadership development program designed to assist motivated young adults ages 16-24 to earn their GED and obtain career and job skills. In addition to working toward their GED, participants also learn basic construction skills and assist with building a home for a low to moderate income family.
Participant criteria:
- Ages 16-24
- Needs/wants GED
- Has desire or willing to learn basic construction skills
- Low-income participants are given preference as per Federal requirements
Participant benefits
- Will receive stipend for participation $$$$
- Will receive GED instruction
- Will receive job skills training and career counseling
- Will build a home for a low to medium income family
- Will learn basic construction skills and possibly receive a certificate of skills acquired
Participant expectations
- Commit to 10-month program
- Attend class daily
- Show up with positive attitude and always strive to give 100% effort
